Flood Insurance
Texans are all too familiar with the uncertainty of the weather in the Gulf Coast. Storms often come through without a moment's notice, and heavy rainfall and flooding become commonplace for residents of Texas, especially for coastal cities such as Houston, Galveston, and Corpus Christi. Thousands of Houstonians lost their homes and businesses during the catastrophic floods caused by Hurricane Harvey, and have taken months to rebuild the city - click here to learn more about how to prepare for hurricane season. With these events fresh in our minds, it is clear that flood insurance is absolutely essential for Texans to protect their most valuable assets.
According to the NFIP, flooding is defined as a general and temporary condition where two or more acres of normally dry land, or two or more properties are inundated by water or mudflow. Flooding can be caused by many different factors, including, but not limited to: hurricanes, broken levees, outdated or clogged drainage systems, and rapid accumulation of rainfall.
At ATAB Insurance Services, we want all Texans to be properly covered against the disastrous consequences caused by flooding (check out our blog post). Flood coverage is not included as part of a homeowners policy, but can be purchased separately. Rates for flood insurance will differ depending on the elevation of your home and whether or not you are in a flood zone. Additionally, you do not have to be a property owner to purchase flood insurance; renters who want to protect their personal property can purchase contents-only flood policies.
There are several factors that go into a flood insurance policy, but the staff at ATAB Insurance Services has the knowledge and experience to guide you through the process and ensure your property is adequately covered.
